Applying for a reduction
Council Tax Reduction
Applying for a reduction
You can apply for Council Tax Reduction if you rent or own your home or live rent free.
We work out how much your bill will be reduced by looking at the:
- amount of money you receive
- amount of savings and investments you have
- circumstances and income of people who live with you
You may not be entitled to Council Tax Reduction if your savings and investments are over £16,000.
However, you can be considered for Second Adult Reduction if an adult lives in your property that is not responsible for paying rent and Council Tax.
You may qualify if the second adult:
- is over the age of 18;
- is not your partner;
- is on a low income; and
- does not jointly own your home
Our online form will ask you to upload acceptable evidence to support your application. The decision will be delayed without this evidence. You can also send evidence via email to benctax@fife.gov.uk but this may also delay the decision.
Need support applying
