What you must do after you apply

Short-term let licence

What you must do after you apply

Once you've applied for your licence, you must follow these steps.

Step 1. Display a Public Notice

You must display a Public Notice at or near your premises for 21 days after you've made your application. This is to let nearby residents know an application has been made and allow for any representation to be made.

The notice must be displayed on or near the premises in a position where it can be easily read by the public. This could be on a lamp post, outside the grounds of the premises. Displaying it on a window is not acceptable.

You can use this Public Notice template.

Step 2. Return a Certificate of Compliance

You need to send us a Certificate of Compliance when your public notice period ends. This should be done within 7 days of the public notice expiring. This confirms the notice has been displayed for the required 21 days.

You can use this Certificate of Compliance template.

A licence will not be granted if these are not complied with. This is not required for a Temporary Licence or Exemption.

Step 3. Provide updated certificates when they expire during the assessment period

Valid and updated certificates are required to determine a licence. You must send updated versions when renewed.

These may include:

  • current Gas Safety Certificate (for premises with gas supply)
  • current Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
  • current Portable Appliance Testing Report

Step 4. Display information and be compliant

When the licence is granted, we will email you a copy of the licence and Notice of Decision. It's your responsibility to remain compliant with all licence conditions for the duration of the licence.

You must:

  • display licence information within your premises
  • provide information on carbon monoxide safety
  • meet both the mandatory conditions and additional conditions for the duration of the licence
  • display the licence number on booking platforms
  • display the EPC number on booking platforms if relevant

Information to be displayed within the premises

As the licence holder, you must make the following information available within the premises in a place where it is accessible to all guests:

  • a certified copy of the licence and the licence conditions
  • fire, gas and electrical safety information
  • details of how to summon the assistance of emergency services
  • a copy of the gas safety report
  • a copy of the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
  • a copy of the Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Report

Carbon Monoxide information

The following information must be provided to guests:

  • instructions as to what guests should do in the event that the carbon monoxide alarms sounds
  • if there is a mobile gas cabinet heater in the premises, safety instructions as to the operation and movement of the mobile heater
