The much-anticipated Headwell Play Park has officially opened in Dunfermline, with local children and residents celebrating the occasion.
The £120,668 park is the result of months of hard work by Headwell Community Council, supported by the generous efforts of the local community and various organisations, including Fife Council and the Fife Environment Trust (FET).
The Headwell Community Council actively sought input and support from the community, organising a series of fundraising events that brought people together for a common cause. Highlights included: consultation event on site with the proposed designs, coffee mornings and a tombola.
The new design is made up of a variety of equipment which will mean there will be something suitable and accessible for everyone, including large two tower climbing unit, inclusive roundabout, swings, toddler castle unit, springer unit and picnic area. It also has engaging activities such as a puzzle panel, rock climbing panel and a ‘you and me’ swing seat.
Councillor Linda Erskine, Fife Council’s Spokesperson for Communities, said: "This play area is a great example of what can be achieved when the community pulls together. The play area committee and local people have done an amazing job, and it's fantastic to see the results. This park will be a special place for local families for years to come.” My thanks to Peter and the Headwell Community Council for their hard work, leading on the consultation and design of the park. It was lovely to be present and to see so many children and their families enjoying their new park and enjoying the goody bags and refreshments the community council provided for them. A wonderful effort resulting in a beautiful safe play area.
Headwell Community Council also shared their excitement: “Peter O’Sullivan of Headwell Community Council concluded: "We’re thrilled that our new play park is now officially open! This project was made possible thanks to the incredible support of our community and Fife Council. This park is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together. We look forward to seeing children and families enjoy this space for years to come!"
