We are only able to take enquiries from accredited journalists and representatives of accredited media organisations. We can’t assist students, citizen journalists, amateur filmmakers or respond to any other enquiries from unregulated individuals / organisations, or that will not result in information being widely published. We might ask you to provide us with proof of verification before we respond.
Accredited journalists and media professionals can contact our news desk at FifeCouncil.news@fife.gov.uk
Or you can call us on 01592 583 312 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The news desk email inbox is not monitored outside of office hours, so email media enquiries received out-of-hours may not be answered until the next working weekday.
In an emergency out of hours, you can reach the Duty Communications Officer on 01383 602 123.
We log all media contacts on a secure database, comprising the name, organisation and contact details of the enquirer, the questions asked and replies given. This is done for auditing and legally required disclosure purposes.
During critical live incidents, our focus will be on providing regular updates on our channels. Please monitor our website and main social media channels for updates. Fife Council is a Category 1 responder in any major incident, as such we will be collaborating with the emergency services and the lead agency will be confirmed. We will work closely with other agencies to co-ordinate our messages to the public.
We will prioritise the use of our social media channels for messages and updates.
We advise our staff, when approached directly by a member of the media, not to answer questions themselves but to refer you to our news desk.
We do not normally comment on individual cases or enquiries relating to council staff.
