South Street plans

Works to refine measures in St Andrews, in line with local business feedback, will start on 23rd November. The work will take place on South Street, from Church Street down to number 75. This is following discussions with the local bar and restaurant owners, who support these improvements.

In line with feedback from their staff, there's to be additional space next to these businesses. This means the waiting staff are no longer serving across a footway.

The refinement sees the removal of the water filled barriers in this area. A new footway will be laid to tie at the same level as the existing footway, so there are no ramps. The footway will go on the roadside of the additional commercial space.

Pedestrian space has been increased to 3.2 metres in width, from just over 2 metres width previously. Two additional disabled bays are also to be provided to help those with restricted mobility to move around safely. In keeping with the aesthetics of the area, the separation between commercial space and the footway will be made by bespoke planters and fencing.
