Stage status: Sectional completion/ Final design
This is a community-led initiative which is being project managed by Fife Council. It comes after extensive consultation, with a view to providing safe active travel routes for all and linking the shops, schools and places of interest.
The Anstruther to Pittenweem path is part of a longer route between Kilrenny and Pittenweem. The Kilrenny to Anstruther section has already been installed by the Anstruther Cycle Group (part of Anstruther, Cellardyke and Kilrenny Community Council). This initial eastern section comprises a traffic-free path located on the southern side of A917. The route then continues through Cellardyke and Anstruther, using minor roads within a 20mph zone and off-road paths. It passes through Bankie Park, linking Waid Academy and the primary school.
Connection to this and continuing the route towards Pittenweem, sections of the route have been completed or are under construction. This is shown on this map.
Construction has been completed between the Co-op supermarket and the old railway bridge connecting to Dreelside park and Queens Gardens. This section runs behind the industrial estate.
Construction is ongoing for the section from the old railway bridge running alongside Queens Gardens playground and on the section connecting St Andrews Road to the Co-op. This work is scheduled to be completed by autumn 2023.
With the support of Sustrans, design work and negotiation with the landowners are progressing for the two paths between Anstruther to Pittenweem.

- Autumn 2023 - Completion of St Andrews Road and Queens Park path sections
- Winter 2023/24 - Land negotiations and preparation of funding bids
- Spring 2024 - Submission of funding bids*
- Late spring/ early summer 2024** - Tender issue for construction works
- Summer 2024** - Contract awarded
- Autumn 2024** - Site start
