The council is preparing a new Local Development Plan. It will be shaped by the views and aspirations of communities across Fife. The plan will replace FIFEplan approved in 2017, and will set out planning policies and proposals for the use and development of land across Fife.
We would like our new Local Development Plan to promote a Living Well Locally approach.
What is Living Well Locally?
Living Well Locally, or the 20-minute neighbourhoods concept, is the idea of connected communities, where people can meet the majority of their daily needs within a reasonable walk, wheel, cycle or short trip of their home.
Fife Living Well Locally Survey
No one is better placed than the people living in Fife’s communities to tell us about where they live. As part of our consideration, we chose three areas as case studies to test the Living Well Locally approach:
- Cowdenbeath
- Auchtermuchty, Dunshalt, Falkland & Newton of Falkland, Freuchie, Gateside, and Strathmiglo
- Saline and Steelend
We asked people living in these areas to complete a short questionnaire to tell us about the services and facilities available to them in their communities. The survey ran from late September to Monday 31st October 2022. We carried out face-to-face surveys, contacted community groups to ask them to encourage people to complete the survey, and ran engagement sessions in local schools.
We will make the case studies available on this page when they are completed.
How will the Survey support our work?
The results from completed surveys will help us understand what is working well and what could be improved in communities in terms of Living Well Locally. This knowledge will inform our thinking around Living Well Locally and influence our next Local Development Plan.
Children Living in Fife
We created a children’s survey that was open to all children in Fife. The survey ran from late September to Friday 24th February 2023 and involved engagement sessions in local schools.
