Purchasing land or access next to your own home

Requests to purchase Council owned land next to your own home should be made via the form below.

The land which you wish to acquire must not be separated from your own home by a footpath or road. The land must not form part of another property’s garden or be subject to a tenancy.

Requests for land not immediately next to your own home follow a different process. Please use our Register your interest in purchasing land, access or a building – not on the market online form.

A change of use planning consent is likely to be required, including a change from public open space to private garden ground. Any sale as landowner does not grant or imply consent will be given by the Council as Planning Authority.

The Council must ensure any disposals represent Best Value, which may mean we are not able to sell the property directly to you and may involve marketing the property more widely and setting a closing date.

Any offer to buy or lease the property may require formal consultation with local Councillors.

The Council may also consult with other interested, or potentially interested parties, including owners of neighbouring properties. Such an approach helps us demonstrate that we are securing the best consideration as required in our disposals.

Your application does not grant you any rights to acquire the property, nor place any obligation on the Council to sell to you or any other party.
