St Mary RC Church

Church Tower

St Mary RC Church, a Category B listed building in the Leslie Conservation Area dating from the late 1870s, recently underwent coordinated repair works to its clock tower. Responsibility for the public clock lies with Fife Council, while the Church maintains the masonry structure. Masonry and lime pointing repairs were carried out alongside refurbishment of the clock faces. Significant deterioration was identified, with warped clock faces and failed historic stone repairs. During removal, the original cast iron clock faces were found to be beyond repair and disintegrated, requiring full replacement. Listed Building Consent was obtained, and new faces were created using lighter powder-coated alloy and acrylic, based on the original design. The project has successfully preserved the church’s historic character while ensuring the clock remains functional for the community. The work was overseen by Fife Council Building Services in conjunction with local contractors.
