Dunnikier Golf Course Drainage Improvements

Dunnikier Golf

Property Services provided civil engineering design and contract administration for this project.

Due to increasingly wet summers, Dunnikier Park Golf Course had suffered badly from flooding. This resulted in disruption to use and loss of revenue, with low lying sections of the course out of use for weeks at a time. Using Sustainable Urban Drainage Techniques, Property Services produced a solution that incorporated a number of features including ponds, swales and open channels. These were carefully designed in conjunction with the Sports Partnership, to integrate into the course layout. These features, which included a new main channel across the length of the course, provide storage for excess rainfall as well as natural flow paths and an improved outlet for surface water flows.

The works were carried out with the course in operation and were carefully planned to allow full access to the course for golfers. Selected drainage improvement works were carried out to a number of other courses as part of the project.
