Touch Primary School is a large primary school that serves the communities of East Dunfermline. The school currently has a roll of 281 including the nursery.
Children from the surrounding areas of Touch, Garvock, Bellyeoman and the Eastern expansion of Dunfermline attend the school and nursery. The school serves a very mixed catchment of private and public housing and caters for a very broad spectrum of socio/economic groupings. This is a strength of the school.
At present there are 10 classes ranging from P1 to P7. In addition to class teachers we have 2 part time LS teachers, teachers to cover non-class contact time, a brass tutor and a further music tutor funded by YMI (Youth Music Initiative). The school has a management team of Headteacher, a part-time Depute Headteacher and a part-time Principal Teacher. There is a large team of well qualified pupil support assistants, school support assistant and administrative staff who greatly support the work of the school.
Touch School was built in the 1970s and was extended in the first few years to establish a nursery. The school was further extended in 2020 to provide an additional four classrooms. In 2021 the nursery was refurbished and extended to provide three playrooms.
The school is surrounded by a large tarmac play area. There is also a wildlife garden, internal quad garden, blaze pitch, enclosed grass area and additional tarmac play area. In addition to this, the nursery and five ground floor classrooms all have an enclosed, outdoor area, which allows free flow play between the inside and outdoor areas.
Touch Primary has a very active Parent Council who support the work of the school including raising funds and supporting school initiatives.
The school enjoys a very good and purposeful relationship with parents. Many classes visit the surrounding area and community to support their learning, concerts and performances.
Other strong links have been established with the Community Council, the Schools Liaison Police Office and our Councillors.
