Opened in 1951, Clentry Nursery School was one of the first purpose-built nurseries in Fife. Our spacious grounds provide an ideal setting for early learning, featuring a beautiful garden, a grassed and tarmac play area, and stunning views of Benarty Hill.
Over the years, our facilities have continued to grow and improve. A two-classroom extension was added in 2001, followed by a full refurbishment in 2012. Today, the nursery offers four playrooms, a resources room, office space, a parents and toddlers’ area, a disabled toilet and shower, kitchen and utility room, a dining area for full-day children, and a welcoming staff room. For everyone’s safety, a controlled entry system operates at the main entrance.
Early Learning and Childcare Options
We provide flexible Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) for ante-pre-school and pre-school children, as well as eligible two-year-olds, with three attendance options:
Five 6-hour sessions per week — Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm (39 weeks per year)
Five 4-hour 40-minute sessions per week — Monday to Friday, 8am–12.40pm (49 weeks per year)
Five 4-hour 40-minute sessions per week — Monday to Friday, 1.20pm–6pm (49 weeks per year)
Our Aims and Ethos
At Clentry Nursery School, we aim to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where children, families, and staff work together in partnership. Through a broad range of experiences and high-quality play opportunities, we support every child’s learning and development in line with Curriculum for Excellence 3-18 and Realising the Ambition.
Each playroom is bright, welcoming, and well equipped, with direct access to secure outdoor areas. Outdoor learning is an integral part of nursery life, giving children daily opportunities to explore, play, and learn in the fresh air.
Learning Through Play
Children at Clentry enjoy a wide variety of engaging and stimulating activities that promote creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving. We place great emphasis on helping children build confidence, independence, and positive attitudes that will support them as they move on to school and into the wider community as responsible, caring citizens.
Health and Wellbeing
The health and wellbeing of our children is a high priority. Our programme includes a rich mix of physical activities throughout the year — such as dancing, yoga, mini kickers, and outdoor exploration in the local woods — ensuring children develop both physically and emotionally in a fun and supportive environment.
Our Staff Team
Our dedicated team includes a Head Teacher, Depute Heads of Centre, Principal Teacher, Early Years Lead Officer, Senior Early Years Officers, Family Support Worker, Clerical Assistants, Early Years Officers, Pupil Support Assistants, Janitorial, Catering, and Cleaning Staff. Together, they create a caring, stimulating, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Partnerships and Community Links
We work closely with a range of professionals and local partners, including Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Health Visitors, local primary schools, Kelty Community Centre, local police, colleges, churches, and the Kelty Community Council.
