At Cairneyhill Nursery we are privileged to work in partnership with children and their families. Parents, guardians and other family members are welcome to spend time with their child in Nursery and on some of our trips out exploring other places. We have a parents group that meets regularly to talk about what is going on in Nursery and to share ideas.

Cairneyhill Nursery has 2 rooms which the children have named the Buttercup and Daisy Rooms. Each room is staffed by 2 permanent Early Years’ Officers. Our teacher allocation is 2 and half days every week split between the 2 rooms. There are up to 20 children in each room morning and afternoon, a mix of three and four-year-olds. The children flow between the rooms and the outdoor area. Children self register, have hello time, story and snack in their own room.

At Cairneyhill we have a child centred philosophy through which the children explore all areas of Curriculum for Excellence. Our aim is to allow each child to fulfil their potential, giving them ownership and independence learning and achieving through play. Children are given lots of experiences inside and outdoors, developing their interests and ideas.

Our children are involved in planning using mind maps and talking and thinking floor books. We explore various themes throughout the year. Our children’s development and achievements are recorded through observations and photographs. These are put into each child’s personal learning plan linking them to the early level in Curriculum for Excellence.

At Cairneyhill we have a Forest Kindergarten session most weeks of the year in our local woods. The children are free to explore nature at first hand through all seasons and weather.
