New Templehall Community Hub opens its doors to the public

The new Templehall Community Hub in Kirkcaldy is now open.

The £15 million, state-of-the-art hub provides a modern, welcoming space that brings a wide range of services, activities and facilities together under one roof.  Aerial shot of the new Templehall Community Hub

The new hub replaces several older buildings in the area, including the former Templehall Community Centre and the Argos Centre. Designed around the needs of the local community and developed in partnership with local people, the purpose-built facility supports services residents already know and use, while also creating opportunities for new activities and partnerships.

Located in the heart of Templehall, the hub offers flexible, accessible spaces and makes it easier for people to access council, partner and community services in one central location.

Services available at the hub include:

  • Library
  • Customer Service Centre
  • IT and learning suite
  • Training kitchen
  • Meeting rooms
  • Games and community hall available for hire
  • Outdoor Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

Community groups, local organisations and residents can also hire spaces within the hub for meetings, activities and events.

To mark the opening, a programme of free taster sessions will run during the first week, from 27 April to 2 May, giving people the chance to explore the new building and try out some of the activities on offer.

Opening week sessions include:

  • Adult book and reading groups
  • Junior reading activities
  • Pickleball
  • Walking football
  • Adult craft sessions
  • Boccia
  • Junior Code Club
  • Lego challenge activities
  • Family and youth sports sessions

The taster programme has been designed to appeal to a wide range of ages and interests, with activities for families, young people and older residents alike. Full details of sessions, dates and times are available at www.fife.gov.uk/templehallcommunityhub

The hub is the first community facility in Fife to be built to Passivhaus Classic Standard which means it has been designed to be very well insulated and airtight, so it stays comfortable all year-round while using much less energy to heat and run than normal.

The building has also been awarded the Gold Secure by Design standard by Police Scotland, recognising its high standards of safety and crime prevention. As part of its Secure by Design accreditation, the building incorporates “designing out crime” principles. This includes enhanced physical security features, such as doors and windows, as well as a layout that promotes safety within the surrounding environment.

Cllr Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: “The opening of the new Templehall Community Hub is an important milestone for Kirkcaldy and Templehall area and forms part of wider investment in the local community. People will be proud of what has been delivered, a facility which will set the tone for a forward-looking community.

“This modern, purpose-built facility brings together services people rely on in a welcoming and accessible space. It will play a key role in supporting learning, wellbeing and community life in Templehall for years to come, and I’d encourage as many people as possible to come along, explore the new building and take part in the opening week activities.”
