Fife Council’s Environment and Building Services team is celebrating a fantastic double success at this year’s Fife Business Awards - recognising both its commitment to developing young talent and the exceptional achievements of its apprentices.
The team picked up the Community and Partnership Award, while apprentice Hayden Gordon was also named Apprentice of the Year in a testament to the strength of the council’s training and development programmes.
The Community and Partnership Award highlights Environment and Building Services’ successful partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (Fife), which helps inspire the next generation of skilled workers.
Through this collaboration, secondary school pupils from across Fife are invited to attend hands-on skills days at Muirhead Business Centre, giving them a real insight into apprenticeship opportunities. The team also delivers in-school sessions focusing on interview techniques, application writing and employability skills.
The initiative is designed to support all young people to move into positive destinations - equipping them with the confidence and skills needed to succeed, regardless of the career path they choose.
Adding to that gong, Roof Slater and Tiling apprentice Hayden Gordon was crowned Apprentice of the Year after impressing judges with his dedication, professionalism and passion for his trade.
Hayden has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning, alongside developing his skills and knowledge within the roofing industry.
His commitment and positive attitude set him apart, earning him well-deserved recognition at the awards.
Lewis McKerchar, Commercial Development Manager with Fife Council’s Building Services, commented: “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised for the work we’re doing with Developing the Young Workforce.
“It’s all about giving young people opportunities and helping them develop skills for life.
“Hayden’s success is a great example of what can be achieved with the right support, commitment and attitude.”
These awards underline Fife Council’s ongoing commitment to investing in people, supporting local communities and developing a skilled workforce for the future.
