Work to restart on new homes after contracts awarded.

Council Housing being builtOver 200 new council houses are back on track after work was stopped on four sites across the Kingdom last year.

At a meeting of Fife Council's Cabinet Committee on 29 May, councillors approved the appointment of contractors to build council houses at Lochgelly Road, Lumphinnans, Bellyeoman in Dunfermline, and New Flockhouse in Lochore .

Building work came to a halt when local firm First Endeavour LLP went into receivership In March 2024.  Fife Council took ownership of the sites and the council's building services stepped in to take over the building work on the houses planned at Fair Isle Road in Kirkcaldy.  Now contractors have been appointed for the remaining three sites:

  • Lochgelly Road, Lumphinnans:  Clark Contracts Ltd. have been awarded the contract to build 97 council homes, consisting of 72 for general need, 19 for specific needs and six wheelchair homes. Work is expected to start in June 2025, with completion expected in summer 2027.
  • New Flockhouse, Lochore: CCG (Scotland) Ltd have been awarded the contract to restart building 51 new homes, consisting of 34 for general needs, 14 for specific needs and three wheelchair homes. Work is expected to start in June 2025, with completion expected in summer 2027.
  • Bellyeoman, Dunfermline: CCG (Scotland) Ltd have been awarded the contract to build 45 new homes, consisting of 15 for general and 30 specific needs homes. Work is expected to start in June 2025, with completion expected in summer 2027.

Fife Council’s spokesperson for housing, Cllr Judy Hamilton said: "I’m pleased that these contracts have been awarded and that work can restart at Lumphinnans, Dunfermline and Lochore.

"Providing more Council houses in Fife is a key priority for the council so this progress is very welcome news.

“The new Council houses will be highly energy efficient, meeting our design and sustainability standards making them very cost effective to run. The diverse housing mix will meet the needs of local people by providing amenity bungalows and 4-in-a-block flats;  properties designed for wheelchairs and two, three and four bedroomed houses.

“Our tenants often experience huge improvements in their quality of life when they are able to live in a home that meets their individual needs. I am absolutely committed to providing homes that are safe, warm and secure.”
