Kirkcaldy welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Wednesday (2 July) as part of the centenary commemorations of the town’s war memorial.

Despite the traditional Scottish summer weather, crowds had gathered hours in advance to catch a glimpse of the royal couple and be part of this historic moment.

The King unveiled a new commemorative cairn, honouring not only those who gave their lives in war, but also the unsung heroes who kept Kirkcaldy’s public services running during both world wars.  He went on to meet community organisations in Kirkcaldy Galleries, while Queen Camilla visited the Maggie's centre in the grounds of Victoria Hospital.
