Funding boost to help Fife homes and businesses tackle flooding

Property owners across Fife affected by – or at risk of – flooding can now apply for support through Fife Council’s Property Flood Resilience Grant (PFRG) scheme.

Fife councillors will be updated on the Property Flood Resilience Grant at the Environment, Transportation and Climate Change Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday, 2 September, 20025.

The grant was initially launched in February 2024 to offer property owners the opportunity to fund measures to help them protect their property during extreme weather events.

The scheme, which proved a success last year, has been extended with a funding pot of £309k available for 2025/26. Grants of up to £5,000 per property are on offer to help private homeowners and businesses install measures that make buildings more resilient to flooding and speed up recovery after extreme weather events.

Flooding has become a growing problem in Fife. Over the past four years, around 1,300 flooding incidents have been reported to properties, businesses, and roads. The Council’s Climate Fife Strategy and Action Plan highlights the urgent need to prepare communities for the increasing risks linked to climate change.

Councillor Altany Craik, Fife Council Spokesperson for Finance, Economy & Strategic Planning, said: “Our Property Flood Resilience Grant is already providing much-needed help to households and businesses affected by flooding, while also helping protect against future risks.

"Although we’ve had some lovely sunny weather, extreme conditions are becoming more common – from very dry spells to severe storms. Don’t wait for winter floods to hit: apply now and take steps to protect your home or business.”

As part of the application process, the Council can help applicants arrange a property flood assessment report through the Scottish Flood Forum.
