Fife's community safety partnership has welcomed the news that Fife police officers will soon be wearing video cameras as they carry out their duties across the Kingdom.
Chair Cllr Margaret Kennedy welcomed the decision as "a new era of transparency and safety for Fife."
She added: "I am delighted to welcome the rollout of body-worn video cameras for police officers across Fife. This is a significant step forward in enhancing trust, accountability and safety in our communities.
"I look forward to working closely with Police Scotland, community safety partners, and residents to ensure this technology is used fairly, responsibly, and transparently."
The new cameras are expected to bring many benefits for residents in Fife including:
- Greater transparency — interactions with the police are recorded, helping build public confidence in policing.
- Better evidence — high-quality video can strengthen cases, supporting quicker, more reliable justice for victims.
- De-escalation potential — knowing an interaction is recorded can help calm tensions and encourage respectful behaviour.
- Fewer complaints / misunderstandings — the camera can provide objective records that resolve disputes over what happened.
- Improved community safety — with stronger policing tools and trust, we can work together more effectively against crime.
Concluded Cllr Kennedy: "Let’s keep the conversation open—if residents have questions about how body-worn video works, privacy protections or what to expect, I encourage you to reach out, and we will do our best to explain clearly."
