Fife Council celebrates outstanding apprentices and raises thousands for local charities

Apprentice of the year awards 2025Fife Council’s Environment and Building Services has proudly celebrated its 2025 Apprentice of the Year Awards, recognising the dedication, excellence, and achievements of apprentices across construction, grounds maintenance, and fleet services.

Held at Rothes Halls, the event showcased the council’s commitment to nurturing future talent, with awards presented to outstanding individuals who have demonstrated exceptional skill, growth, and professionalism throughout their apprenticeships.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, spokesperson for Building Services, said: “Fife Council currently supports 136 apprentices across a wide range of disciplines, reflecting our strong commitment to developing the next generation of skilled professionals. Being shortlisted for these prestigious awards is a testament to the quality and impact of our apprenticeship programme.”

Service Manager Allan Halliday added: “Our apprentice programme is a cornerstone of our workforce development strategy. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to real-world challenges, our apprentices gain invaluable experience that sets them up for long-term success.

"This year, they’ve truly excelled - not only within the organisation but also through recognition from respected industry bodies. Their achievements, including certifications, awards, and glowing feedback from clients and colleagues, highlight the strength of our programme and the calibre of our apprentices.”

Fleet Services Winner – Kieran Mitchell, Apprentice HGV Mechanic

Grounds Maintenance Winner – Louis Melville, Apprentice Horticultural Gardener

Building Services Winners

  • 1st Year – Leon MacKenzie, Apprentice Plumber
  • 2nd Year – Kieran Lynch, Apprentice Electrician
  • 3rd Year – Hayden Gordon, Apprentice Roof Slater & Tiler
  • 4th Year – Aaron Richardson, Apprentice Workshop Joiner

Overall Winner – Aaron Richardson

In addition to celebrating apprentice achievements, the event raised an impressive £3,213.46 through a fundraising raffle, supporting two local organisations: Methilhill Community Children’s Initiative (MCCI) and Ward 52 at Victoria Hospital.
