Fife Education’s STEM Futures Festival is encouraging families to get involved in another amazing Festival event for children and young people, with a wealth of workshops and activities for everyone to get involved.

The event will be launched on Monday 12th June via our online site: https://bit.ly/stemfutures (under construction until launch date). This will kickstart an exciting week of live and virtual workshops for learners of all ages and lots of exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths )challenges that families can get involved in at home. Activities will encourage learners to:

· generate real world STEM questions for exploration.

· conduct a STEM enquiry.

· consider solutions for a better and more sustainable future.

· explore future STEM destinations.

The online Festival site can be accessed by anyone and will go live on Friday 9th of June for those who would like a preview before the official launch date. The site offers learners the opportunity to take part in a daily STEM challenge, explore more about careers and get inspired by all the STEM activity which has taken place across our schools and educational settings throughout the 2022/2023 session. There is an online Festival Support Pack that anyone can take advantage of.

There was a preview of things to come earlier in May, as judges deliberated over the entries for the Your STEM Questions competition.

Angela Logue, Education Head of Service, said: “It was fantastic to see the creativity and leadership of Fife young people who have identified such important STEM questions to explore as part of the festival this year. Our three winners: Westfield Family Nurture Centre, Milesmark PS and Kirkcaldy North PS were outstanding and are so excited to be receiving £250 of STEM equipment for their school.

“Promoting a culture of STEM for all is a key educational priority in Fife and Fife Education and Children’s Services are very excited to welcome the festival back for its second year. This year’s Futures theme is linked to thinking about the important role STEM careers have in the future of our planet and how we can inspire learners to pursue their STEM journey. The festival will be a wonderful celebration of all STEM learning from the academic session and will offer all Fife learners the opportunity to connect with real-life STEM based challenges and experiences which help to raise STEM ambitions for the future.”

The festival will host a mixture of live and virtual STEM workshops, for learners across all school sectors - early years, primary and secondary.
