Help for parents on children's well-being and behaviour during Covid-19 crisis

This article is more than 3 years old

These are strange days and many of us are learning to adapt to a whole new way of living. For our children and young people, these changes can be especially unsettling. This can lead to all kinds of unusual reactions, which as parents we might not feel able to deal with alone.

Fife’s Educational Psychology Service (EPS) provides assessment, consultation and advice to schools and parents about children’s wellbeing, learning and behaviour.

Under normal circumstances, we specialise in the children identified as having Additional Support Needs but recognise that this stay-home situation and the anxiety surrounding COVID-19 has led to children and families experiencing challenges that may not normally arise.

In response to this pressure, Fife EPS are going to provide direct consultation where we have educational psychologists available to respond to your questions or queries.

If you have questions in mind, please look through the materials saved at this website in the first instance, where we are uploading a range of documents and resources which may be helpful for you https://www.fife.gov.uk/psychologicalservice

We are hoping to be able to manage any other concerns you might have, through emails for the majority of situations - psychological.service@fife.gov.uk .

It would be really helpful if you could provide the following details as a minimum requirement in your email:

  • Your name and relationship to the child in question (we can only respond to parents/carers and will need you to identify yourself as such)
  • School or Nursery Provision your child normally attends
  • The child’s date of birth
  • Your question or query
  • Whether you currently have Educational Psychology support in place (if you know the name of your psychologist please include this)

We will respond to the email address you have used in your query unless you indicate otherwise

We will not be recording data which could identify you or your child during these consultations without your consent, but we will keep a record of the number of consultations discussed, the age/stage of your child and from which areas in Fife they were located (by school/nursery) to allow us to gauge demand and arrange staffing available for consultation during the time that schools remain closed to pupils.
