RESIDENTS living in the Dunfermline Central and Rosyth council wards are being urged to turn out and use their vote in next week’s by-election.
If you live in either council ward and have registered to vote, you will have the opportunity to choose a new councillor for your ward on Thursday 14 November.
This by-election is taking place following the resignation of councillors Alan Craig and Samantha Steele.
Mike Melville, Electoral Services Manager for Fife said: “Voting is the most important way for residents to make their voice heard on issues which concern them. It’s their opportunity to exercise their right to help influence and shape what happens locally.”
So what should you do on 14 November? Most people will be voting in person at a polling place. The details of your polling place will be on your polling card however, if you’ve not received this, or can’t find it on polling day, you can visit www.fife.gov.uk/byelection or call the elections team on 03451 555522 to find out where your polling place is.
If you can’t find your polling card on polling day, as long as you’re registered, you can still vote. When you arrive, you’ll be asked to confirm your name and address and given your ballot paper.
Anyone who has registered to vote by post should have received their postal vote pack.
Mike said: “We’ve been sending out postal ballot packs from 28 October but if you haven’t received yours by now please contact the Elections Team on 03451 555522.
“Read the instructions carefully - a statement which comes with your ballot paper will ask for your date of birth and your signature for security reasons. It’s absolutely vital that you complete and sign this statement; if it’s not done, or not done correctly, your vote may not be counted. Once you’ve filled in both the statement and the ballot paper, put them in the envelopes provided, seal them immediately, and post back to us as soon as you can.”
Please note that if you have a postal vote you can’t vote in person at your local polling place on 14 November. However, if you’ve left it too late to post the pack back, you can hand your postal vote in to any polling place in the ward on 14 November between 7am and 10pm, or to the Elections Office, Fife Council, Fife House, North Street, Glenrothes, KY7 5LT by 10pm.
To make sure your vote is counted you’ll need to vote using numbers, marking the candidates in order of choice using 1, 2, 3 and so on. It is essential you vote using the correct system.
Polling places will be open from 7am to 10pm.
