ScotRail 12 month pilot
From 1st April 2025, ScotRail began a 12-month pilot to enable those who have a Sight Impaired National Entitlement Card (NEC) with the Ceye+1 symbol to bring a companion with them at no cost when travelling together on trains within Scotland on ScotRail services.
The blind cardholder can be accompanied by 1 companion who will be granted free travel with the cardholder”. Further information can be found on ScotRail website

Discounted Rail Travel with Your NEC Card
Travel between any two Fife train stations for just £1 (single) or £2 (return), unlimited journeys, tickets are valid on the day of purchase.
- Travel is allowed:
- after 9:15 am Monday to Friday
- anytime on weekends
- anytime on national public holidays

Young Persons' Rail Discount
If you're 16–18 or a full-time volunteer under 26, you can get 1/3 off most fares and advance tickets, plus 50% off weekly and monthly tickets.

If you don’t qualify for free or discounted travel, you can still save with a Disabled Persons Railcard or Senior Railcard (60+), which offer up to 1/3 off rail travel across Britain.

Edinburgh Trams
Blind or visually impaired NEC holders can use the Edinburgh trams for free, including to and from Edinburgh Airport. If you have a +1 entitlement on your card, your companion can also travel with you free.
