Become a Canvasser

Every year, the Electoral Registration Officer is required by law to contact each household in their local registration area, as part of the Annual Canvass. This is to confirm if the information they hold on the electoral register is complete and accurate. This sometimes involves visits to properties.

We are looking for people aged 18 and over, who can work with us as Canvassers to complete the door-to-door visits during the Annual Canvass periods. You could be a Fife Council employee, a student, a retiree, or simply someone interested in getting involved. It's a great opportunity to see democracy in action, whilst earning a little extra cash.

You will receive full online training to make sure you are confident in your role.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years of age and fit and able enough to walk from door to door, including climbing stairs whilst carrying an electronic tablet and, in some instances, paper forms.
  • You must have access to transport (travel expenses will be payable). Car users must have a roadworthy vehicle, alongside a full driving licence, valid road tax, MOT, and business travel insurance.

Hours of work

These are flexible, depending on your availability. You can work up to a maximum of 36 hours per week, in the following shifts:

  • 10am to 8pm on weekdays
  • 10am to 6pm on Saturdays
  • 12pm and 4pm on Sundays

Pay

This is paid at FCLW grade, currently £10.90 per hour. An enhanced rate will be payable for any hours worked over Saturday and Sunday.
