The Maxwell Centre is a fully accessible facility designed to support and celebrate the spirit of our local community. Whether you're looking for a space to run activities, host events, or join in with learning and leisure opportunities, then the Maxwell Centre is the place for you, a welcoming place for people of all ages and interests to come together, connect, and thrive.

Our facilities

Main hall

a large, brightly lit hall with a polished wooden floor.   • fitness & dance classes
  • martial arts
  • social gatherings.

With access to kitchen facilities, flexible seating arrangements, and affordable hire rates, our function space can be tailored to suit your needs

Multi-purpose room

Perfect for more intimate gatherings, the large room can accommodate:

  • community gatherings/events
  • meetings
  • birthday parties (not suitable for bouncy castles)
  • classes
  • low-impact fitness classes
  • smartboard for presentations

IT/learning suite

Youth room

The youth room is a bright, versatile space that can be adapted for a wide range of uses. Whether you're organising a group activity, hosting a workshop, or looking for a more informal setting for your event, this space is designed to be flexible, welcoming, and fully accessible. Perfect for:

Our fully equipped teaching kitchen includes five workstations, including an accessible station, making it ideal for:

Meeting rooms 1 & 2

Designed for productivity and collaboration, our meeting space is great for:

  • training sessions
  • activity classes
  • low-impact fitness classes
  • smartboard for presentation

Our colourful creche room is ideal for young or family groups with access to small kitchen facilities and a small secured outdoor space.  It’s a great space for trying to bring people together in a more casual, creative setting.

Active travel route & facilities

Walking and cycling paths: the Maxwell centre is well-connected to the surrounding area by a network of walking and cycling paths, encouraging safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly ways to travel. Local paths link Cowdenbeath with other surrounding areas making the Centre easily accessible by foot or bike.

Cycle parking & maintenance: to support active travel, the Centre provides convenient cycle parking. Visitors arriving by bike are welcome to make use of these facilities during their visit.

Public travel information

Bus services

Several local bus services connect Cowdenbeath to neighbouring towns and villages, with stops just a short walk from the Maxwell centre. Popular routes include:

  • Stagecoach Service 19: connecting Rosyth to Dunfermline to Cowdenbeath, and Ballingry
  • Stagecoach Service X27: linking Leven to Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline and Glasgow

Rail services

The nearest railway station is Cowdenbeath Station, located approximately 0.2 miles from the Maxwell Centre. From the station, visitors can reach the centre by local bus or a short taxi journey. Cowdenbeath Station offers regular services to Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, and Edinburgh, making travel to Maxwell centre straightforward from across Fife and beyond.
