Young people lead Active Schools Beath Cluster Leagues'

Young people from across the Beath Cluster have taken the lead in organising a year of successful school sports leagues, bringing pupils together to compete, have fun and represent their schools.

The Beath Cluster Leagues take place each term and include basketball, netball and football. Pupils from all six Beath Cluster primary schools take part, along with St Bride’s RC Primary School and St Joseph’s RC Primary School.

What makes these events special is that they are planned and delivered by young people. This year, Beath High School Platinum Ambassador Marlie Galloway led the programme, supported by a team of 46 Young Ambassadors. For the most recent term, Marlie also worked alongside incoming Platinum Ambassadors for 2026/27, Skye Waterson and Lilyanna Smith, demonstrating the strength and depth of opportunities in the Active Schools Young Leadership Pathway.

Across each term, schools compete in a round robin format, earning points for their results. These points build towards a league table, with the top-performing school earning the chance to represent the Beath Cluster at the Fife Active Schools Finals.

The competition has been closely contested throughout the year. In December, Hill of Beath Primary School were crowned Basketball Champions. At the latest event, held on Thursday 14 May, Kelty Primary School took home both the Netball and Mixed Football titles.

Beyond the results, the leagues have been praised for the positive experience they provide for young people across the cluster, helping them build confidence, teamwork and a sense of pride in representing their school.

Marlie Galloway, Platinum Ambassador, said:“The Cluster Leagues bring our cluster together and give our young people the opportunity to represent their school. Our Young Ambassador team have been amazing at supporting the cluster across the whole year and schools always enjoy the fixtures.”

Alison Green, Headteacher at Crossgates Primary School added:“Our school have found the Cluster Leagues very enjoyable. It has created a great atmosphere across the cluster and has allowed the competitive nature to return to the schools as well as connect us. The fixtures always run very smoothly thanks to good organisation and the number of enthusiastic Young Ambassadors.”

The Beath Cluster Leagues show how young people can take the lead and make a real difference, while helping more pupils get involved in sport.
