West Fife school leavers are outperforming the national average, with more young people moving into jobs, college, university or training after leaving school.
Members of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee today heard that 98% of leavers in South and West Fife/Dunfermline entered a positive destination in 2024/25. This is higher than both the Fife average (96.6%) and the national figure (95.7%).
The figures show continued improvement over recent years. They reflect the strong partnership working between schools, colleges, employers, Skills Development Scotland and third sector organisations, all helping young people plan their next steps.
Continuing education remains the most popular choice for young people in West Fife:
- 72.9% progressed to higher or further education, above the Scottish average of 68.3%, and
- 21.2% moved into employment or training.
Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, Cllr James Calder, welcomed the report. He said: “These are very positive results for West Fife’s young people and our schools.
“It’s encouraging to see so many young people moving into jobs, college and university. This reflects the hard work of our young people, school staff and partners, and shows what can be achieved when everyone works together to support positive futures.”
