Essential drainage works linked to a new affordable housing development in Glenrothes is underway, requiring a temporary road closure on Foxton Drive.

The works form part of infrastructure being installed for the Keepmoat Homes development and are required before homes on the site can be occupied.

Most of the drainage installation has already been completed using temporary traffic signals. However, the final section of work, located at the sharp bend between Blackwood Road and Foxton Drive, requires a temporary road closure due to the limited width of the road and the depth of excavation needed.

During earlier works in the area, vehicles were regularly getting too close to the work area because of the limited space on the road, creating safety concerns for both workers and drivers. Alternative methods of completing the works while keeping the road open were explored, but no safe and practical solution could be identified due to the physical constraints of the site.

The road closure will be in place for up to two weeks from Monday 3 August and has been scheduled for the end of the school summer holidays, when traffic volumes are typically lower and there are no school transport movements.

Local bus services will be affected during the works. To help minimise disruption, a shuttle bus will operate between Foxton Drive and the Glamis Centre, providing connections in both directions for passengers. Information on the shuttle service will be displayed at existing bus stops.

The drainage infrastructure is required before habitation certificates can be issued for the development. The site will deliver 80 affordable homes, with 36 properties currently programmed for occupation from September.

A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure period.

Cllr Altany Craik, Fife Council's Spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Strategic Planning, said: "We know this closure will be frustrating for residents, particularly given the ongoing disruption associated with the nearby Network Rail works, and we appreciate their patience.

"However, safety must come first. Due to the restricted nature of the site and the depth of the excavation, it is not possible to complete these works safely while keeping the road open.

"This short-term closure will allow essential infrastructure to be installed and will help support the delivery of much-needed affordable homes in Glenrothes. We will continue to work closely with the contractor to ensure the works are completed as quickly as possible and disruption is kept to a minimum."
