Visitors to Lochore Meadows Country Park had the opportunity to learn more about a range of enhanced water safety measures during the park's Safer Communities Event.
The event, which was held yesterday (8 July) brought together Fife Council's Safer Communities Team, Outdoor Education Fife and partner organisations including the RNLI, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to engage with visitors, share safety advice and promote responsible enjoyment of the loch and surrounding areas.
The event also showcased a series of improvements that have been introduced across the park as part of Lochore Meadows' ongoing commitment to helping people enjoy the outdoors safely.
Over the past year, the park team has been working to implement a range of improvements designed to strengthen prevention measures, increase public awareness and support safer use of the loch.
New water safety signs and Scottish Outdoor Access Code information have been installed at key access points around the loch, helping visitors make informed choices before entering the water. The signage also includes QR codes linking to additional online safety information.
Lifesaving provision has also been enhanced, with existing life rings upgraded and additional units installed around the loch. There are now ten life rings positioned at key locations, alongside two main public lifesaving stations.
Park staff continue to work closely with partner organisations through regular patrols and engagement with visitors, while the Outdoor Education Centre is offering free paddle sports sessions throughout the summer to help beginners build confidence and develop their skills in a safe and supported environment.
Councillor Alex Campbell, Convener of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, said:"Lochore Meadows is one of Fife's most popular outdoor destinations and a fantastic place for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, and we want everyone to be able to do so safely.
“We’ve made a number of improvements around the loch, including better signage and additional lifesaving equipment, while continuing to work with our partners to promote safety awareness and responsible behaviour.
"I'd like to thank everyone involved in delivering these improvements and all of the partners who took part in the Safer Communities Event. By working together and encouraging people to make safe and informed choices, we can help ensure Lochore Meadows remains a welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone."
Visitors attending the event were able to speak directly with local safety partners, take part in family-friendly activities and learn how simple actions can help keep themselves and others safe while enjoying the park and local waterways.
The safety improvements form part of Lochore Meadows' continued focus on creating a safe, welcoming environment for residents and visitors while supporting responsible access to one of Fife's most valued outdoor spaces.
