Road closure for essential works on New Row, Dunfermline

Essential works to improve New Row in Dunfermline are set to get underway, with a temporary road closure required to allow the project to be carried out safely.

Fife Council will carry out carriageway and footway resurfacing on New Row, between the zebra crossing and Canmore Street junction. The works are part of ongoing investment to keep the road network safe, reliable and fit for the future.

The resurfacing works are scheduled to take place from Monday 25 May to Friday 5 June 2026. Ahead of this, Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) will carry out essential utility works to install a new gas connection between 18 May and 22 May, also requiring a road closure.

To minimise disruption while ensuring safety for road users and workers, the road will be closed from 7.30am on Mondays until 5pm on Fridays, reopening at weekends.

During the works:

  • Local bus services will be diverted, with information displayed at affected stops.
  • A signed diversion route will be in place via East Port, St Margaret’s Drive, Nethertown Broad Street, Moodie Street and Priory Lane.
  • Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
  • Pedestrian access will continue, with arrangements in place to support residents and businesses.
  • Every effort will be made to maintain access for local residents and business deliveries, with site operatives on hand to assist where needed.

While we appreciate that road closures can be disruptive, these essential works will improve the condition of New Row and help ensure it remains safe and reliable for everyone who uses it. We will do everything possible to minimise inconvenience and thank the public for their patience while these improvements are carried out. We thank the public for their patience while these improvements are carried out.
