Dysart harbour structure with a concrete pier and sea wall beside a pebble beach.

The work will involve:

• Setting up a small works compound near the car park to store equipment and materials.
• Building a temporary ramp to allow workers and machinery safe access to the beach and foreshore.
• Recovering and removing any loose or fallen sandstone blocks.
• Carrying out investigations into the ground and structure where part of the pier has failed, to understand the scale of repair required.
• Placing concrete where necessary to stabilise and strengthen the pier.
• Installing large protective rocks (known as rock armour) to temporarily fill the breached area and help shield the harbour from further damage.  

Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, Councillor Ian Cameron, said: “We know how important Dysart Harbour is to the local community, so it’s vital that we act quickly to protect it. This repair work will help stabilise the sea wall and safeguard the harbour from further damage while we work closely with Dysart Sailing Club to plan the full repair.

“I would urge people to stay away from the area as far as possible while the work is carried out.”
