Proposal to Make St Marie’s RC Primary School Exclusion Zone permanent

St Marie's RC Primary School, Kirkcaldy

Kirkcaldy Area Councillors have agreed to consider making the St Marie’s RC School Exclusion Zone (SEZ) on McIndoe Crescent permanent.

This follows an extensive trial which was originally agreed in September 2022.

The SEZ restricts traffic on MacIndoe Crescent during drop-off hours (8:30am-9:30am) and pick-up hours (2:30pm-3:30pm).

Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, Councillor Ian Cameron, said: “It’s very clear from the school’s feedback that the restrictions have reduced the number of cars in the street and makes McIndoe Crescent safer for children. Keeping our children safer is our top priority.

“There’s still a bit of work to do as we can see from the consultation feedback. Although there’s been a reduction in traffic during morning drop-offs, there has been a slight increase in traffic at home time. While we appreciate that St Marie’s is the only faith school in the Kirkcaldy area, and we understand that it is necessary for some pupils to be driven to and picked up from school, the School Travel Plan strongly encourages the use of public transport and more active ways of getting into school. For pupils who must be driven in, I’d encourage parents and carers to use the dedicated park and stride site, car park at Overton Community Hall – just a two-minute walk from the school.”

A permit system will continue to run for residents of MacIndoe Crescent.  St Marie's RC School Exclusion Zone (SEZ)

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will now be put in place and providing there are no objections, the SEZ will be made permanent.
