Fife Council is continuing to tackle the housing emergency with significant progress on two Council housing projects that will deliver more than 100 much-needed properties for local families.
Members of the Council’s Cabinet Committee today welcomed news that work has restarted at the Lochgelly Road development in Lumphinnans, where 97 new social rented houses will now be completed following the appointment of new contractors.
The development had stalled following the insolvency of the previous contractor, First Endeavour LLP, in 2024.
Since then, the Council has undertaken extensive work to address construction, infrastructure and regulatory issues inherited on the site.
New contractor Clark Contracts mobilised last month, and construction has formally restarted with a view to completing 45 houses by summer 2027 and the remaining 52 by September 2028.
Meanwhile, councillors have also approved the purchase of eight family houses in Glenrothes from Allan Water Homes, providing additional high-quality housing in an area of strong demand.
Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council Spokesperson for Housing and Building Services, said: "Providing more affordable, high-quality housing is one of Fife Council's top priorities, particularly as we continue to respond to the housing emergency and the increasing demand for housing across our communities.
"The restart of construction at Lumphinnans is particularly welcome. Following the collapse of the original contractor, a huge amount of work has gone into resolving complex issues on site and ensuring the development can move forward.
“These 97 houses will make a real difference to individuals and families who need access to secure warm and safe housing.
"At the same time, the proposed purchase of eight new family homes in Glenrothes shows how we are using a range of approaches to increase housing supply as quickly as possible.
“Purchasing completed or near-completed homes can help us provide high-quality accommodation where demand is greatest and get families into the properties they need sooner.
"Together, these projects represent a significant investment in Fife's communities and underline our commitment to delivering more affordable housing for local people."
The Council's Affordable Housing Programme – which is also supported by Scottish Government funding - continues to play a key role in increasing the availability of quality housing across Fife, with a mix of new-build developments and some purchases, helping to meet housing demand and support communities throughout the region.
In Glenrothes, the Council has agreed a deal to buy eight new three-bedroom family homes currently under construction in Caskieberran Road.
These off-the-shelf properties are expected to be completed by March 2027 and will help meet continued demand for larger family homes in the area.
