Plans for long-term improvement across education and children’s services have been approved by councillors.
Fife Council’s Education Directorate Improvement Plan 2026-27 and Fife Children’s Services Plan 2026-29 set out how services will focus on improvements to help every child and young person in Fife reach their full potential.
Together, the plans focus on long-term improvement across education and children's services, with a particular emphasis on closing the poverty-related attainment gap, improving support for vulnerable children and families, and strengthening partnerships between schools, social work, health services and community organisations.
Councillor David Ross, Leader of Fife Council, said: "All our children and young people should have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. These plans demonstrate our determination to keep improving the services and support available to children, young people and families across the Kingdom.
"We know that achieving the best outcomes for our children requires long-term commitment and strong partnership working. That's why we are focusing on areas where we can make the greatest difference, including raising attainment, supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing, strengthening support for families and ensuring children have the best possible start in life.
"These plans build on the excellent work already taking place across Fife and set out a clear path for continued improvement.”
The Education Directorate Improvement Plan focuses on three key priorities:
- improving learning, teaching and assessment
- meeting learners' needs
- strengthening curricular pathways
Meanwhile, the Children's Services Plan prioritises:
- mental health and emotional wellbeing
- family resilience
- early speech, language and communication development.
