A major new community facility at the heart of Templehall has officially opened, marking a significant investment by Fife Council in local services and community life in Kirkcaldy.
The £15 million Templehall Community Hub was formally opened by Cllr Linda Erskine, Fife Council's spokesperson for Communities, and Cllr Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee.
The state-of-the-art facility which has been operating since April, brings a wide range of services, activities and community spaces together under one roof, creating a modern, welcoming hub for residents of all ages.
Located in the heart of Templehall, the purpose-built building replaces several older facilities in the area, including the former Templehall Community Centre and the Argos Centre. Developed with input from local people, the hub has been designed to support existing services while creating opportunities for new activities, partnerships and community connections.
The project also helped secure a new home for the Templehall Community Gym. Previously based within the former Templehall Community Centre, the gym relocated to refurbished premises nearby as part of the wider regeneration plans. The move has enabled the gym to continue serving local residents in a modern, fit-for-purpose facility while supporting health and wellbeing within the community.
The hub includes:
- Library
- Customer Service Centre
- IT and learning suite
- Training kitchen
- Meeting rooms
- Games and community hall available for hire
- Outdoor Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)
Community groups, local organisations and residents can also hire spaces within the building for meetings, activities and events.
To celebrate the opening, a programme of free taster sessions will take place from Monday 7 September. These will give local people the chance to explore the new facility and try a range of activities including Zumba, Parent & Toddler Soft Play, Jujitsu, Boccia, and Multi sports for adults with additional support needs.
Councillor Linda Erskine, Fife Council spokesperson for Communities, said: "The new Templehall Community Hub is a fantastic addition to the area and demonstrates our commitment to investing in communities and providing modern, accessible services for local people.
"Since opening its doors in April, the hub has received a very positive response from residents, community groups and partners. It's been encouraging to see so many people making use of the facilities, taking part in activities and embracing the opportunities the building provides.
"Designed around the needs of local people, the hub offers a welcoming space where people can access services, learn new skills, meet others and take part in activities close to home. We hope it will continue to be a valued community asset for many years to come."
Councillor Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: "The official opening of the Templehall Community Hub marks an important milestone for the area and an opportunity to celebrate what has already been achieved since the building opened in April.
"The feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive, with people recognising the benefits of having so many services, activities and facilities available in one accessible location. It's clear the hub is already making a real difference to community life in Templehall.
"This modern, purpose-built facility will support learning, wellbeing and community connections for years to come, and I look forward to seeing it continue to grow as a focal point for local people and organisations."
The hub is the first community facility in Fife to be built to the Passivhaus Classic Standard, meaning it has been designed to use significantly less energy while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment throughout the year.
The building has also achieved the Gold Secure by Design award from Police Scotland, recognising its high standards of safety, security and crime prevention.
