More than £154,000 for projects to boost sporting opportunities across Fife

Summer of Sport funding

A total of 37 community organisations and sports clubs across Fife are set to share more than £154,000 through the Summer of Sport 2026 funding programme, helping create new opportunities for children and young people to get active in their local communities.

Earlier this year, sports clubs, charities, voluntary organisations and community groups across Fife were invited to apply for a share of the new Summer of Sport Fund, which is being delivered by Fife Council in partnership with sportscotland to widen access or create free or low-cost sporting and physical activity opportunities for young people aged 3 to 26.

The fund formed part of a wider £840,000 investment secured for Fife through the Scottish Government-backed Summer of Sport 2026 programme, which is increasing participation in sport and tackling barriers that prevent young people from getting active.

Grants of between £2,500 and £5,000 were made available for projects ranging from holiday activity programmes and coaching sessions to community sports events, inclusive activities and equipment hire.

And following the application process, 37 projects have been recommended for funding to support local clubs, community groups and third-sector organisations to deliver inclusive, affordable sporting opportunities up until the end of March 2027.

The successful organisations represent a broad mix of sports and activities from across Fife's seven localities, including athletics, basketball, football, rugby, gymnastics, tennis, netball, golf, cricket, judo and disability sport, alongside community-led initiatives designed to make physical activity more accessible to young people.

Councillor Linda Erskine, Fife Council's Communities and Leisure spokesperson, said: "Sport and physical activity play a vital role in improving health, wellbeing and confidence, particularly for children and young people.

“Through Summer of Sport, we're helping local clubs and organisations provide more opportunities for people to take part, regardless of their background or circumstances.

"These projects will help break down barriers to participation, strengthen communities and create lasting pathways into lifelong sport and physical activity.

“I'm delighted that this investment will support so many organisations making a real difference in communities across Fife."

The programme particularly prioritised projects focused on young people, those experiencing financial hardship, disabled participants, rural communities and other under-represented groups.

Projects were assessed against a range of criteria including their ability to increase participation, provide free or low-cost opportunities, support partnership working, create sustainable pathways into sport and leave a lasting legacy in local communities.

The recommendations place a strong emphasis on inclusive opportunities, community-based delivery, partnership working and long-term sustainability, with the funding expected to support thousands of participation opportunities across the Kingdom.
