Councillors in North East Fife have agreed to move forward with a series of proposals aimed at improving road safety, managing traffic, and enhancing access across local communities.
At the recent Area Committee, members agreed to promote a range of Traffic Regulation Orders and a right of way diversion, marking the next stage in the process.
Proposals to introduce safer speeds
Councillors agreed to promote new and extended 20mph speed limits in Largoward, Boarhills and Tayport, supporting safer travel in local communities.
In Largoward, proposals include:
- New 20mph limits on St Andrews Road, Durham Place and parts of Cupar Road
- Replacing the current part-time school speed limit with a permanent 20mph limit
- Introducing 40mph buffer zones on the B941 south and A915 north
In Boarhills, proposals would introduce 20mph limits on the U059 and Old Edinburgh roads, responding to concerns raised by residents about speed and safety
In Tayport, proposals include extending existing 20mph limits on the B946 Albert Street, B945 Queen Street to the south side of the play park and Glebe Place to create more consistent coverage across the town
Proposed updates to parking and waiting restrictions
Members also agreed to promote parking restrictions to help improve safety in Pitlessie High Street and Cupar Road, which include:
- Introducing new ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions on the High Street adjacent to the Pitlessie Inn car park and delivery entrance to address obstructive parking. This would support access for deliveries and improving visibility at key junctions
- propose a short section of no waiting restriction across the vehicle access indicated in Cupar Road, opposite the junction with The Wynd, in order to address obstructive parking at this location.
Cllr Jonny Tepp, Area Convener for North East Fife, said:“These proposals are all about improving safety and accessibility across our communities. Importantly, today’s decision is about moving these ideas forward so local people can have their say.
We encourage residents to take part in the consultation process and share their views before any final decisions are made.”
