A piece of Templehall’s history is being preserved for future generations, as the church bell has been carefully recovered from the former Templehall Parish Church.
The church, which was built in 1955-56, was a well-known landmark in the area for many years before it later united with Torbain Parish to form Kirkcaldy Hope Church in 2021. It held its last service on 27 August 2023.
Following its closure, work to carefully take down the building and recover key features is being carried out by BAM.
Now, the bell an important symbol of the church and the local community – has been safely removed and will be given a new home as part of the affordable housing development planned for the site.
The bell will be repositioned within the new neighbourhood, helping to keep a visible link to the area’s past while creating a space for new beginnings.
Councillor Ian Cameron, Kirkcaldy Area Convener, said: “Templehall Parish Church has been part of the community for generations, so it’s important that we recognise that history as the area changes.
“I’m really pleased that the bell has been saved and will be brought back into the new development. We’re also looking at whether the clock can be reused as part of the plans, if that proves possible.
“While the buildings themselves are no longer there, this means an important part of Templehall’s identity will still be there for people to see and connect with. It’s about respecting the past while creating something new for the community.”
The new housing development will deliver much-needed affordable homes while also creating a neighbourhood that reflects both the future and the past of Templehall.
Residents will be able to see the bell once it’s installed as part of the completed housing development.
