An on-demand bus service that provides Fifers with a flexible way of travelling has been extended into Levenmouth after Fife Council received funding from SEStran.
Go-Flexi, which is funded by Fife Council and operated by Moffat and Williamson, offers residents in designated FlexiZones a convenient way to reach key destinations such as transport hubs, shops, health appointments, work, education and social activities.
The service has proved popular in parts of North East Fife and West Fife, but it will now also operate in Levenmouth thanks to a £500,000 grant via SEStran’s Transport to Employment Programme - a Scottish Government initiative that aims to reduce transport barriers preventing people from accessing employment, training and employability opportunities.
What’s more, due to passenger requests, zones in the West Fife Villages area have been extended to include Carnock and Gowkhall, while the Mossgreen and Castle Drive areas have been added to zones in the Forth Bridgehead area.
The funding has also led to the introduction of the W3, which is a fixed route service that will operate two early morning journeys from Steelend, Saline, Oakley, Cairneyhill, Crossford, Crombie, Charlestown, Limekilns, and Ferrytoll Park and Ride.
Operated by Moffat and Williamson, it has been introduced following feedback from users looking for peak time connections to Edinburgh via Ferrytoll Park and Ride from West Fife Villages.
This service will also provide additional journey options for passengers in Limekilns, Crombie and Charlestown.
Councillor Altany Craik, Fife Council Spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Strategic Planning, said: "This expansion of Go-Flexi is great news for Levenmouth and demonstrates our commitment to improving access to transport across Fife.
“The service provides a practical and flexible travel option, helping people connect with jobs, education, healthcare and leisure.
"By extending the service and responding to customer feedback, we're making it easier for residents to travel when and where they need to, supporting communities and helping ensure that a lack of transport is not a barrier to opportunity."
Unlike traditional bus routes, Go-Flexi lets customers book their journey in advance, choosing pick-up and drop-off points at local bus stops within their zone.
Customers can book trips up to a week before they travel and as late as one hour before they go using the Go Flexi mobile app or by phoning the booking line.
Concession passes, cash and contactless payments are all accepted, and the service is accessible for wheelchair users, prams and assistance dogs.
The new Levenmouth service, which can be booked now ahead of it starting on Monday, August 17, provides transport to healthcare facilities, including GP surgeries and dental practices.
It also offers connections to key transport hubs such as Leven Bus Station, Leven Railway Station and Cameron Bridge Railway Station, enabling onward travel across the wider transport network.
In addition, the service can take passengers to a range of shopping destinations.
