City of Dunfermline Area Committee has approved a funding contribution of £15,417 to support essential improvements in Townhill Woods.
The investment will help make the woods safer, more accessible and enjoyable for locals and visitors.
Townhill Woods is a much‑loved local green space. Recent issues with fallen trees, overgrown vegetation and flooding on the main path have made parts of it difficult to use. Planned improvements to Townhill Woods include:
- removing dead and fallen ash trees,
- cutting back vegetation along key paths,
- raising sections of the main Wilson Street path by around 300mm to prevent flooding and muddy conditions,
- replacing ageing boardwalks, and
- installing a new small timber bridge to improve access to the north‑west of the site.
The total project cost is £35,899. Because Townhill Woods is a Common Good asset, an application will be made to the Common Good Fund to cover half of the overall cost. In addition, £2,531.90 of remaining Section 75 funding for Townhill will also be used to support the project.
The work will be carried out by Rural Skills Scotland, who previously created a Woodland Management Plan for the area.
Committee Convener Cllr James Calder said: “I’m delighted the committee has backed this investment. Townhill Woods is an important community space that is enjoyed by people across Dunfermline. These improvements will make a real difference to how people use and enjoy it. Safer paths, and better access will help ensure the woods remain welcoming for everyone.”
