Funding approved for Glenrothes Men’s Shed extension

The Glenrothes Area Committee has agreed to allocate £33,000 from the local Community Recovery Fund (CRF) to support the development of an extension at Glenrothes Men’s Shed. Exterior of a Men’s Shed building with murals of tools, a guitar and workshop items.

The contribution will go towards the total project cost of £47,000, enabling the group to expand its existing premises to better meet the needs of its growing membership and support an increasing number of requests from local organisations for practical assistance.

The Men’s Shed currently supports 110 men and 27 women, offering opportunities to meet, socialise, learn skills, and participate in creative and practical activities. The group plays an important role in reducing social isolation and supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of local residents.

The proposed extension will increase the available space to accommodate more members, broaden the range of activities on offer, and allow the group to continue responding to community requests for help with hands‑on projects.

Funding for the project aligns with several key priorities of both the Plan for Fife 2021–2024 and the Glenrothes Area Local Community Plan, particularly themes around tackling poverty, strengthening community wellbeing, and building local capacity.

Welcoming the decision, Glenrothes Area Committee Vice Convener, Councillor Lynn Mowatt, said: “The Men’s Shed is a valued community resource that delivers real benefits for the wellbeing of people across Glenrothes. This extension will help the group grow, support more local residents, and continue the fantastic work they do with partners and organisations in the area. I’m delighted that the Committee has agreed to support this project through the Community Recovery Fund and I’m sure The Men’s Shed will be too.”
