South and West Fife Area Committee has agreed to allocate £26,000 to support plans for improved parking provision in Culross.

The funding will contribute towards proposals to expand the East Car Park, with indicative designs showing the potential for up to 48 more parking spaces. The overall project cost is expected to exceed £200,000, with further funding to be sought from external sources.

The need for increased parking has been identified as a key issue following ongoing engagement between Fife Council, local elected members and Culross Community Council. The village has long faced challenges in managing parking demand from both residents and visitors.

This funding is a first step towards improving parking and supporting tourism in Culross. Work is already underway through ‘Press Pause’ workshops, which will help shape a plan for the village and improve visitor facilities.

Cllr Dave Dempsey, Area Convener, said: “We know that parking has been a long-standing concern for people living in and visiting Culross. This funding is an important first step in helping the community move forward with a solution. It also strengthens the case for attracting other investment, which will be essential to deliver a project of this scale.”

Further funding options will now be explored. Fife Council will work with the Community Council and local groups to secure the remaining funding needed to bring long-term improvements for Culross.
