Free summer activities on offer for young people in Dunfermline

Young people can get active, make friends and try new activities at free summer sessions in Dunfermline.

The Dunfermline Summer Sessions will take place at the Glen Gates throughout July, offering a range of activities for young people aged 12 and over.

Sessions will run from 3.30pm to 6.30pm on:

  • 8 and 9 July
  • 15 and 16 July
  • 22 and 23 July
  • 29 and 30 July

Activities will include street football, archery, tomahawks, creative workshops, team challenges and more. The sessions are free to attend, with no booking required, young people can simply turn up and take part.

The programme aims to provide fun, positive opportunities for young people during the summer holidays. It will encourage participation in activities that build confidence, develop new skills and strengthen community connections.

City of Dunfermline area convener, Cllr James Calder, said: "The Summer Sessions are a fantastic opportunity for young people to enjoy a wide range of activities during the school holidays, completely free of charge.

"One of the recommendations from the Dunfermline New City Assembly was to provide facilities and opportunities for young people to discover new skills, experiences and entertainment within the city centre. These Summer Sessions are a positive step towards delivering that ambition.

"Whether it's trying archery for the first time, taking part in sport, getting creative or simply meeting new people, there is something for everyone. I'd encourage young people from across Dunfermline to come along, get involved and make the most of what's on offer this summer.

"It's important that young people feel they have opportunities and activities designed with them in mind. These sessions provide a safe, welcoming space where they can have fun and connect with others while helping create a positive atmosphere in our city centre."

The Dunfermline Summer Sessions are being delivered in partnership by Fife Council, The Pars Foundation and Police Scotland.

Sgt. Fraser Simpson, Police Scotland added: "It's great to see organisations coming together to give our young people somewhere safe, welcoming and enjoyable to spend time during the holidays.

"These activities are more than keeping youths off street corners, or out our transport hubs. It's about building relationships,  confidence, and showing them their community is willing to come together to put on activities, right in the city centre, that will genuinely interest them.

"I'll hopefully not have too much of a target on my back during the football games!"
