Shoppers in Kirkcaldy will be able to park for up to one hour for free in Kirkcaldy town centre.
Members of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee have agreed to make the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) for free parking between Kirk and Oswald’s Wynds in the Merchant’s Quarter of the town, permanent.
The initial removal was in response to feedback from local traders and were agreed by members of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee back in 2024. Feedback from the free trial period has been positive.
Convener of the Kirkcaldy area committee, Councillor Ian Cameron said: “We’re committed to listening to what people tell us and parking is definitely a topic that many of us are contacted about as local members.
“We’ve introduced a number of initiatives over the last few years in Kirkcaldy to encourage people back into the town centre. These include discounted parking rates and discount season tickets for those who work in Kirkcaldy, so I’m pleased we’re in a position to now permanently remove these on-street parking charges in the town centre. This makes it the same as the parking charges at the other end of the high street. Hopefully, by giving people a place to park for free for an hour, it will continue encourage a turnover of shoppers to the high street and local businesses.”
Although the parking bays will be free for one hour, Monday to Saturday, they will be subject to a maximum stay of 60 minutes, with no return within one hour. Parking Attendants will continue to patrol the area. There will be no time limits on Sunday’s.
