A simple benefits check could boost family income.
Fife Council and local partners are encouraging first‑time parents to check for two payments to help with the cost of raising children: Child Benefit (paid by HMRC) and Scottish Child Payment (paid by Social Security Scotland). Many families tell us they are receiving Child Benefit but have not yet applied for Scottish Child Payment and could be missing out on extra support.
Scottish Child Payment is £27.15 a week per eligible child under 16 and is paid every four weeks (£108.60). Child Benefit is currently £26.05 a week for the eldest or only child and £17.25 a week for additional children, paid every four weeks.
“If you get Child Benefit, it’s well worth checking if you can also get Scottish Child Payment,” said Fife Council Leader, Cllr David Ross. “A quick online check can make sure you’re getting everything you’re entitled to.”
