Fife councillors have been warned that continued strong financial discipline will be needed to protect services and maintain financial sustainability in the years ahead.
A report discussed by the council's Cabinet Committee today (Thursday) highlights continued pressure on council services, rising demand and the need for careful financial management to protect reserves and maintain essential services in the years ahead.
Council Leader Cllr David Ross said: "This report demonstrates the importance of strong financial management, but it should not be interpreted as meaning the financial pressures facing local government have eased.
"Much of the funding identified in this report is already committed for specific purposes and will need to be carried forward into next year. We are also benefiting from a one-off reduction in loan charge costs which will not be available to support future budgets.
"The reality is that demand for services continues to grow, costs remain high and councils across Scotland continue to face uncertainty over future funding.
"Maintaining healthy reserves remains essential. They help us manage unexpected pressures and provide resilience at a time when local government finances remain under significant strain.
"We have taken difficult decisions in recent years to strengthen our financial position, and we will continue to manage public money carefully, deliver approved savings and ensure every pound spent delivers value for the people of Fife."
