Only 100 days to go until pupils and staff can begin the new school year in their brand new school, Caledonia High.
There are now only 100 days to go until the new Caledonia High School opens its doors to pupils and staff.
The occasion was marked by future Caledonia High School pupils on a visit to see how the building was progressing, and the excitement was evident in their faces.
The new school will replace Inverkeithing High School and has been described by pupils as “really modern and different", " giant!", and “accessible and inclusive”. The building will have capacity to accommodate 1735 pupils, over three floors, with an open 'see and be seen' approach throughout the school.
The new building has been built to similar standards as the award-winning Dunfermline Learning Campus, with lots of the same features, including:
- fully accessible and flexible indoor and outdoor spaces for learning, supporting interdisciplinary learning, and linking different subject areas together;
- improved facilities for pupils who need additional support day to day;
- an assembly hall which can accommodate 350 pupils with retractable, tiered seating that can be moved away to allow the space to be used for a variety of purposes;
- enhanced digital capacity, modern IT and Wi-Fi access which will increase the opportunities for digital learning both for individual learners and community groups;
- a low energy building built to Passivhaus principles which will use around 75% less energy than standard practice for a UK new build;
- a wide and varied community learning programme in modern, purpose-built facilities in evenings and at weekends;
- and a mixture of all-weather pitches and grass pitches as well as multi-use games facilities that will be available for community use.
This school will be the latest in our programme to renew all our secondary schools. It marks a total capital investment of £88m from the Council, with revenue funding support from Scottish Government.
