Dunfermline New City Assembly presents final recommendations

Dunfermline New City Assembly have presented their final recommendations to the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, following a meeting held on Wednesday 11 March.

The presentation marks a key milestone in the Assembly process, which brought together a diverse group of local residents.  The Assembly examined evidence, discussed priorities and agreed a set of recommendations to help shape Dunfermline’s future.

Councillor James Calder, Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Dunfermline New City Assembly and hear their recommendations first-hand. 
“The commitment that residents have shown throughout this process has been exceptional. Their work offers valuable insight into community priorities as Dunfermline continues to grow as Scotland’s newest city. 
“We appreciate the time and care Assembly members have put into developing these recommendations and we look forward to considering them in detail.”

During the meeting, Assembly members outlined the recommendations they developed over several weeks of deliberation. They also reflected on their experience of taking part in the Assembly and shared the insights that informed their conclusions.

“Assembly members tackled complex issues with openness and respect. Their recommendations reflect the thoughtful approach they took throughout the process. 
“It was fantastic to see them share their work directly with councillors. We hope their contribution helps shape meaningful, long-term improvements for the city.”

Dunfermline New City Assembly recommendations 

1. Provide support and facilities for young people to find and explore new skills, opportunities and entertainment within the city centre
2. Develop and disseminate a Dunfermline App that caters to residents first
3. Create a clear communications strategy for all, including digital, physical and relational methods
4. Involve local residents in decision-making and communicate well about plans for development
5. Create a cleaner, greener, safer and more welcoming city centre with a unique and distinctive identity drawing on our history and cultural heritage
6. Create a clear strategy to capitalise on its rich history and heritage
7. Have a green, reliable and integrated transport network connecting local residents to both the city centre and the outside world
8. Provide career and employability support to grow the local job market
9. Revise its policies to stimulate the setting up and sustaining of independent businesses
10. Bring citizens together to build inclusive communities through greater engagement, communication, understanding and actions
11. Provide more activity / events that involve all residents within KY11, KY12 and KY4
12. Produce a monthly flyer on what’s happening

The City of Dunfermline Area Committee will consider these recommendations and provide a formal response in the coming weeks.
