Local people are invited to help shape the next stage for Kirkcaldy’s town centre and waterfront at public drop-in events on Thursday 28 May at the Town House.
Two sessions will take place: 2pm-5pm and 6pm-8pm.
This work forms part of a wider programme to transform Kirkcaldy and is currently being taken forward through the following projects, with more to come as the programme develops.
- A long-term plan for the town centre and waterfront led by Collective Architecture, working with the community to develop a viable over-arching plan and test ideas about how these areas could look in the future.
- Flexible community building, led by BAM with AHR Architects, which will create a new, vibrant space for the community. This includes wider changes in the town centre, including new buildings, the removal of some existing ones, and a new waterfront park.
- Development and land opportunities, including exploring new uses for existing buildings, supporting short-term uses for spaces while longer-term plans develop, and preparing areas of the town centre for future improvements.
- Kirkcaldy Green Space Strategy, led by Greener Kirkcaldy, they will set out a long-term plan and help the town deal with changing weather. Greener Kirkcaldy will work with local people to design the esplanade park.
- Redevelopment of the former Postings site, led by Kingdom Housing Association and Cruden, to create new housing for the town.
There’s no need to book – just come along at a time that suits you. This builds on earlier work, showing how things are developing and what could happen next.
At the events, you will be able to:
- Find out more about the long-term plan for the town centre and waterfront
- See how previous feedback is shaping the plan
- Share your own views on how these areas could be improved
- Learn more about the next stage of town centre improvements, funded through the UK Government Growth Mission
- Meet the teams delivering the work
There will also be stalls from partner organisations, including Greener Kirkcaldy and Kingdom Housing.
Local feedback is an important part of shaping the plan, and everyone is encouraged to take part.
Council Ian Cameron, Convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said: “These events are about showing how earlier feedback is shaping the overall plan for Kirkcaldy’s town centre and waterfront. We’re now moving into a new stage, where long-term ideas are being developed and tested, and some of the first key developments will soon enter the planning process. This is a chance to see progress, ask questions, and help shape what happens next. I’d encourage anyone with an interest in Kirkcaldy to come along.”
If you can’t attend in person, information and opportunities to share your views will also be available online at: transformingkirkcaldy.fife.scot
